Back to Teacher in Training
This is a portion of a literacy block that includes reading, writing and spelling. Lessons are based on non-fiction texts about a variety of science topics. Students are making a chart of words that they encounter in a text about the parts of plants that familiar foods come from, with a focus on vowel digraphs, which prior assessment showed to be a learning need for these particular students.
Other components of this block include multiple readings of the text and interactive writing, using the words targeted in this lesson. I have incorportated technology and service learning into this literacy block by having students create Power Point presentations of high-frequency words that they use for practice and to share with other students.
